Friday Family Fun

Last night Doug decided we were heading out to the Sports Bar for dinner. Before dinner we stopped at the Golf USA store which is one of Doug and Caden's favorite places. Doug checked to see if his clubs could be lengthened. His clubs are about 2 inches too short right now, so he's playing bent over too far to compensate. Caden and I had a good time practicing our putting skills while we waited for Daddy. After dinner, we headed to Braums for ice cream cones. Once we were home Caden enjoyed staying up past his bedtime watching golf on TV with Doug while I read (finished The Notebook and started The Wedding, both by Nicholas Sparks who is becoming one of my favorite authors!). It was a relaxing way to end the work/school week. Today, of course, we're headed for a college football marathon (at least for Doug and Caden). Doug is looking forward to finally getting to watch the Sooners on TV. I'll watch OU with them, but then probably try to catch up on some more school work since that pesky to do list never seems to stop growing! Go Sooners and Jayhawks!! Sorry Wildcat fans ~ though purple is my favorite color; this house (as evidenced by the memorabilia we've collected already and the dreams Doug has for much, much more) bleeds crimson and cream during football season!

Wednesday

Nothing special going on here. I made it to the Wellness Center this morning, making my grand total 2 for 2. I feel good about getting up and going, but it does make for a long day. I'm hoping I adjust to getting up earlier soon.

Caden is learning about colors and shapes at school this week, which he knew pretty well before. Today they made a graph of the colors of fruit loops. I was very happy that Caden could answer some basic questions about the graph this evening. He seems to really be enjoying school and learning a lot. Preschool has been really good for him.

rear in gear

I finally decided to make use of the gym membership I get at a deeply discounted rate by being an employee of the school district. That's right. I got my rear in gear this morning at 5:10 to workout at the Wellness Center from 5:30-6:00. I know of you buff bodies out there, 30 minutes is nothing, but for this couch potato, it's something! Let's see if I make it all week. 1 for 1!

Labor Day

Doug and I labor differently as I suspected before, but confirmed today.

Labor Day: a national holiday in the United States in which most businesses don't require their employees to work

Labor Day for Doug: sleep late; east Sonic for breakfast; labor for 4 hours on the golf course to score a record low (though no where near Tiger) 87

Labor Day for Sarah: get up early; work on school work at home; eat Sonic for breakfast; take Caden to school for 3 hours to work on the very long to do list; go grocery shopping; clean kitchen; work another hour on school to do list

Happy Labor Day to you! Here's hoping you got to labor more like Doug than like me!! :)

Labor Day weekend

We've enjoyed our extended holiday weekend for the most part. I have worked for several hours on school stuff, but it feels good to cross at least a few things off my school to do list. Doug watched the opening weekend of college football. Unfortunately, his beloved Sooners were not televised so he missed their crushing defeat of Chatanooga, 57-2. We've napped. Doug and Caden have played golf. I've been out to dinner with a friend and laughed a lot at the Looney Bin (comedy club in Wichita; not a mental health facility for all of you out there wondering if I need one). And, now it's Monday morning, I'm the only one awake. My boys are snoring and we don't have to be anywhere today, except the grocery store. I for one am thrilled to have this bonus day off to spend lounging, reading, and yes, probably working to cross some more items off that very long to do list from school. Hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day. And for some mommies today will be a true Labor Day.
