Jessi

Jessi is the new woman who will be caring for Caden once school starts again for me on August 6th. We are SO glad we found her. We met with her this morning and instantly felt good about her, just like we had with Becci. We're very excited to start daycare with her and hope that all will go well. A big thank you to Amy for recommending her!

One of those days....already

If it can happen, it will happen. That's the way our past week has been. First my Mom, then Becci leaving us and now I have to replace the sump pump is the basement laundry room. I thought the air conditioner was leaking but it is the fact that the pump has rusted and won't pump the water out. This is causing the water to go everywhere in our laundry room. Oh yeah if you don't know me, I'm not a plumber so this should be fun!!!

Becci

Becci is the wonderful, wonderful woman who has been caring for Caden since August 2007. She is the most wonderful, patient, kind, calm, gentle woman! We all love her! She has been such a blessing to our family.

But today, Becci told us she's leaving home daycare behind as she and her family will be moving to Colorado to be closer to their families. We understand her decision, but needless to say, we don't like one bit.

So, now Doug and I are scrambling to find full time daycare for Caden beginning August 6. We have an interview tomorrow evening with a woman who was recommended by our friend, Amy. THANKS, Amy!! Hopefully, all will go well, and we can stop worrying about daycare.

potty update

We've had a few accidents including two nasty #2 accidents today that nearly made Mommy want to quit the whole thing. Alas, Caden prevailed and is still wearing undies. He's having a hard time telling us before he actually goes, so we've been trying to ask him pretty regularly if he needs to go. Please continue praying that Dad and Mom survive this crazy adventure!! :)

big (little) boy

Caden balked at wearing a pull-up this morning and proudly announced he would wear NO diaper today. HOORAY!!! Like a prepared mommy I did pack an extra set of clothes for VBS today and reminded him he would have to tell me if he had to potty. We called Daddy at work to announce this big news and Daddy was of course excited for Caden, but skeptical with me. "will he have an accident?" Probably, I say, but remind Daddy that an accident will lead to quicker learning! Either way, accidents or not, this is a great, wonderful decision made by our big (little) boy today! I for one couldn't be happier and hope and pray our patience has finally paid off in this arena.

potty training day 2

Potty Training Update: Caden successfully peed in the big toilet twice today, after VBS and before his bath. We also talked about him wearing a pull-up tomorrow so he could try going at VBS. My friend Amy who is also working with the 3 year olds offered to take him tomorrow, so he could try in a new location. Hopefully we'll have success. Wish us luck!!

to pee or not to pee

We just might be at the start of our biggest accomplishment with Caden to date. Yesterday afternoon Doug and I had a "Come to Jesus" meeting with Caden and informed him that he would start wearing underoos over his diaper and sitting at least once a day on the toilet to try and potty. As most of you know, to say that Caden has been reluctant to reach this milestone is an enormous understatement, and therefore, he was less convinced than his parents that this was good idea. Nonetheless we persisted and promptly put on a pair of Spiderman underoos over the Elmo diaper. To me, slightly funny to think that Elmo and Superman are battling over our child's hiney, but(t), I'm not superhero expert. Did you catch that last play on words?!?

Anyway, long story short, pray for us!! Seriously, we need it!

Progress So Far:
Sunday night: sat, no production, wore underroos over diaper to bed
Monday morning: no sitting, wore underroos over diaper to VBS and Becci's
Monday @ Becci's: sat, no production
Monday night before bath: sat, production TWICE!!
Monday night after bath: stood, production

We'll keep you posted and hopefully, soon this will be a distant memory!

VBS-part 2, day 1

Caden is attending VBS at Grace this week. Today was the first day and he seemed to enjoy it. He was able to tell Daddy about the Bible story we read today of Moses crossing the Red Sea after God had parted the waters for a safe passage as well as a general outline of the morning. I am one of the adult helpers in Caden's 3's-preschool class. A friend of mine form school and church is one of the other adult helpers. Her son is also in the class. This is the first time either Doug or I have been a leader in a group setting in which Caden was a participant. It went better than I expected. It should be a good week for us to bond over some new experiences and an exciting opportunity for me to watch him in a new setting and see how he learns and interacts with other children and adults. Plus as an added bonus we have en green t-shirts which Caden keeps telling us that he and mommy match. He's big into finding things that match lately. Usually he matches more with Daddy than Mommy, so I guess this is a novelty for him.

big bummer

Doug's mom was admitted to the hospital this morning because her platelets and white blood cells are really low from the latest round of chemo. She's having a blood transfusion in order to pump up her blood. Hopefully, this will be a short stay and a quick recovery. The worst part for all who visit is that we have to wear masks so we don't pass along any of our germs and Caden and Tegan can't visit because I guess little children are extra germy. This part is extra bad for Truck Grandma because seeing her grandbabies makes her feel better.
