Happy Sheets

We've needed new sheets for our bed for awhile! So at the beginning of January we started looking for sheets. We looked at Target and Kohl's, which were busts. I didn't expect to find anything I liked at Wal-Mart, but agreed to look and we found something we liked. Ever since we got our king sized bed we've had boring sheets~ white, pale yellow, and red. I really wanted something different, something happy to coordinate with and brighten up our light gray bedroom walls. We easily agreed on two sets. I didn't think Doug with go for either set, but he surprised me by liking them.  We both refer to them as our happy sheets. I can't look at them without smiling just a little.

polka dots in various greens and blues ~ very calm and serene
my favorites! bright colored stripes and orange accent pillowcases ~ so happy and cheerful!

Playroom Makeover

For Christmas, Santa asked Daddy to help him give Caden's playroom a makeover. Daddy agreed to help Santa paint since Santa was so busy getting ready to deliver presents all over the world.

color scheme before; not very "boyish"

new color scheme ~ gray and lime green; playroom makeover included a new TV and stand

Daddy, Mommy, and Zoe left their mark on the playroom ~ Santa told us to!

Santa and Daddy had fun painting free form shapes

Santa and Daddy got a little silly with the painting

before the big reveal on Christmas morning

note Santa left for Caden on the door

first look! Caden was very excited to not have pink walls and a new TV and fun chair!

Caden Quoteable

Explaining his odd pajama choice (yellow SpongeBob fleece pants which are too big, lime green dinosaur pajama shirt which is nearly too small, and Christmas socks), he tells me, "Yeah, mom, tonight I'm wearing mitch matched pajamas. You know like on crazy sock day when I wore mitch matched socks, except pajamas."

new header

For a Christmas gift or for us, I had considered making a 2012 calendar of photos of Caden sleeping, but I never got it done. So instead, I decided to use a few of my favorite sleeping photos for a new blog header. The one on the far left is my favorite and one of my all time favorites of Caden. It was take on Thanksgiving Day 2004 when he was two weeks old. This boy of ours is a big time sleeper and we've caught him in all kinds of crazy sleeping positions and places, like under our bed and in my (opened) cedar chest

He crawled in and fell asleep even though he was way too long.
Later he told us he had laid down in the cedar chest because he thought it would be soft and comfy.

2012

I'm looking forward to 2012 and all that is in store for our family! I'm sure it will be a busy year full of all kinds of unpredictable adventures. I decided I wouldn't make any formal New Year's Resolutions this year since I'm always disappointed come the end of December about how I didn't attain those lofty goals. This year my only wish is to be content with who I am each day, knowing some days I'll be better than others.

And just because there's nothing related to this post to share photographically, here are two my current favorites, taken last August by my friends Shannon Woods of Woods Photography at Kauffman Museum.
